Meet Rowan

Meet Rowan van der Marel, an amazing talented Grade 11 student, I first met Rowan at Improv, she is a member of Carson Graham Improv Team, she is a amazing all rounded talented student, like many on the the TEAM!

Musically speaking I was amazed, one day Madaline came to us and told us she was helping a friend Rowan with a video downtown, she came home late that night never said too much just she had a good time! Months later we walked around the grade 10 personal project night, another parent from across the room said “omg have you seen this video? Madaline is in it!” We had no idea!

When I thought about my campaign TIME I was riding through Gastown early one morning, for weeks I was trying to come up with a song for my video! I went through many different styles and songs! However it hit me as I went by a crosswalk and remember Madaline crossing the exact road! “ OMG I said ( well Little bit more that that!) it was perfect, so I reached out to Rowan about using her song for my video! Irony is they both share the same feelings, different interpretation, after all that’s what’s it’s all about!

Anyway that’s how I got to meet and have her song the feeling behind TIME!

Rowan has been in love with the world of music since she was six years old, playing nine instruments over the years. But She didn’t know how much it ment to her till She began writing her own songs. It let her explain her thoughts not only to herself but expressed what her world looks like to those around her. It feels like a home to home to her,she started writing music when she was 13 and never stopped. She plans to pursue this as much as she can. Music is truly one of the best things in her life and She wouldn’t be who she is without it. I am so Honoured to know her! Not only did she write the music, played the music, sang the song, she also wrote the story board for her video, filmed and edited it! All in GRADE 10! Watch out world of music! I kept listening to her, and feel there is a bit of Sinead O’Conner or Tracy Thorne. Amazing thank you Rowan!
